Vernon "Dr. Daddy-O" Winslow collection
Content Description
Vernon Winslow was an art professor at Dillard University in New Orleans, Louisiana, and a disc jockey at WJMR, WYLD, WMRY, WWEZ and WJBW. He is credited as being New Orleans' first African American disc jockey and served as a spokesman for Jax Beer under the moniker "Dr. Daddy-O." This collection consists of a variety of sound recordings in various formats. There are 68 reels of ¼” audio tapes of varying lengths. These recordings seem to be live recordings, music and church recordings. Some choir recordings are labeled, but they may contain services as well. Twenty audio cassettes are labeled by topic and appear to be either recordings of radio programs or lectures. There are twenty-seven Super 8 film reels of varying length, and six unprocessed film rolls. They have minimal labeling, but look to be student- and class-related films, including interviews with a nursing department representative.
