Giles Alfred Hubert papers
Content Description
The Giles Alfred Hubert papers contain approximately 400 letters, in addition to lists, notes, programs, publicity materials, receipts, teaching materials, and collected items. The correspondence is evenly divided among incoming and outgoing letters, and contains numerous single letters , most of which were received or written within the half decade during which Hubert was in the foreign service (1948-1953). A group of these were written to college presidents in the search for employment opportunities at the expiration of his tour of duty. The correspondence pertains to personal and professional matters. The post-1953 materials generally concern themselves with academic matters, which parallels the employment of Hubert at Dillard University as professor of economics and Director of Admissions. Correspondents include Mary McCleod Bethune, Arna Bontemps, William H. Dean, Albert W. Dent, Francois Duvalier, Lillian Evanti, E. Franklin Frazier, Lester Granger, John Hope II, Charles S. Johnson, Raphael O'Hara Lanier, Frederick Douglas Patterson, Bonita Valien, Preston Valien, and David McCord Wright.
