New Orleans Chapter of The Links, Inc. records

The records include correspondence, minutes, programs, program planning materials, photographs, clippings, financial records, scrapbooks and various ephemera regarding activities of the local chapter and data about the parent organization. Charter groups in Baton Rouge and Jackson, Mississippi, are also included in the photographs and clippings, as well as members from the Houston chapter and throughout the South. Names include Maude Reid, Etta Moten Barnett, Julia Purnell, Roger Dickerson, Andrew Young, Albert W. Dent, and Ernest N. Morial. In addition, there is a list of members from the establishment of the chapter to the present.

Publications included within the records contain minutes for the 1997 Southern Area Conference, a rituals manual, a written history of Links; the constitution and by-laws, chapter handbooks, the 2000 induction ceremony photograph album, and a video from the 1998 Southern Area Leadership meeting. Other items include volunteer lists, attendance rosters, committee reports, agenda and certificates.

The bulk of the material, dating from 2009-2011, includes binders documenting the chapter’s record of service from 1957-2010, a chapter handbook for 2000-2002, and a president’s administrative guide for the 34th Southern Area Conference for 1997-1998. Also present are programs, volunteer lists, an attendance roster, financial records, committee reports, minutes and agenda, certificates, and photographs of Links members and activities. Material related to the chapter's support of a childhood obesity prevention initiative, a booklet on 2011 inductees, and teacher assessment forms for a 2009 Law Day at Mary McLeod Bethune Elementary School sponsored by the chapter are also included. Earlier materials include a 1975 newsletter regarding the bicentennial celebration of New Orleans with an article on the Links, as well as articles from the Louisiana Weekly, dating from 1977-1981.

Lastly, the records consist of a photo album of a chapter-sponsored event honoring New Orleans artist John Scott in 1995, chapter portraits from 2010 and 2013, as well as programs and ephemera related to chapter projects.
