The Office of Church Building of the United Church Board for Homeland Ministries provided financial support to United Church of Christ schools and church congregations. The majority of the records reflect the work of the American Congregational Union, later known as the Congregational Church Building Society. The collection includes documents from the Congregational Church Building Society, as well as the Evangelical and Reformed Churches. The records of the organization document its function for over one hundred and twenty years. Many documents relate to the establishment and expansion of UCC institutions, including land and property transfer deeds, mortgages, correspondence, reports, minutes, pamphlets, lists, and other document types related to the function of the Office of Church Building and its external relations. Other document types include blueprints, design reports, and analyses of neighborhoods and communities.

Additionally, the records include correspondence, minutes, reports, pamphlets, lists, deeds of property, land and property transfer deeds, mortgages, notes, and other documents relating to the purchase of land, construction of church buildings and parsonages of UCC churches receiving aid and assistance from the Church Building Society. Lastly, the records document meeting minutes, dockets, reports, and budgets relating to the status of church building loans. Also included are printed items on and about the various schools and church congregations seeking loans from the Church Building Society, dating from 1953-1958.
