Downtown Neighborhood Improvement Association (DNIA) Education Committee records
Content Description
The Downtown Neighborhood Improvement Association serves the historic downtown area of New Orleans bounded by Orleans Avenue and St. Bernard Avenue, North Rampart Street and North Broad Street, as well as the triangle above North Broad between Gentilly Avenue and St. Bernard Avenue, which includes the 6th and 7th Wards, Treme, and Greater Treme.
The records of the Downtown Neighborhood Improvement Association’s Education Committee consist of meeting minutes and collected items that reflect the committee’s focus on educational issues in post-Katrina New Orleans. The records date from 2006-2010 with committee minutes dating from March 2006 to February 2007. Along with the minutes are press releases; position papers; statements by members of the Fyre Youth Squad, a student-led education advocacy organization; and 2007 and 2010 reports entitled The State of Public Education in New Orleans.
