Content Description

The papers of painter, sculptor, and photographer William Edward Taylor includes correspondence, honors and awards, programs, and a videocassette of a 1983 interview with Taylor on WFYI (PBS) in Indianapolis. Correspondents include: Alvin R. Bergeron, Donald Elder, Susan L. Cahn (of the Jewish Community Center of Indianapolis), and Donald F. Rees (Lay President of the Lutheran Church Council).

Additional materials include research for the exhibition and publication entitled "A Shared Heritage: Five African-American Artists" at the Indiana Museum of Art, correspondence, news clippings, and a transcript of an interview with the family of artist Hale Woodruff. Woodruff was one of the artists represented in the exhibition, as well as John Wesley Hardrick, William E. Scott, William Majors, and Ferath Hines. Also included are materials related to Taylor's wife, Joyce.

The bulk of the collection consists of photocopies.
