Florence Brooks Thornton collection
Content Description
This collection of materials formerly owned by Florence Brooks Thornton of New Orleans, Louisiana, documents Congregationalist churches and organizations in the city in the early 20th century, and to a limited degree, Thornton's participation in those organizations. The collection includes a 1935 minute book from the Women Missionary Society of Morris Brown Congregational Church; collection envelopes, invitation cards, and receipts from the Church; a 1920 program for the 51st anniversary of the Church; a 1934 program for the 65th annual meeting of the Louisiana Congregational Conference held at Beecher Memorial Congregational Church, and a small amount of correspondence dating from 1928 and 1937; a report from the Mary F. Cripps Guild of Central Congregational Church; and minutes from a 1936 meeting of the Womans' Missionary Union of the Orleans-Thibodeaux Association. Also present is a 1914 edition of William E. Barton's Congregational Manual and Rules of Order.
