Content Description
Collected materials from the Tri-Cities Chapter of the Friends of Amistad, which was based in Elyria, Lorain, and Oberlin, Ohio, and active in the 1970s and 1980s. Collection includes collected materials on family history, African Americans in the Midwest, and other topics. Includes family histories on descendents of Godfrey Brown; a biographical sketch of Thelma C. Quinn Smith; collected materials on Curtis and Pearletha Nelson and Wanda and Howard O. Jones; memoirs of Esther L. Hassell; a 1980 report, "Rediscovery of the Underground Railroad," produced by affiliates of Oberlin College and focusing primarily on Ohio and Kentucky; and a scrapbook of the Elyria Club of Negro Business and Professional Women's Clubs, Inc. The collection also includes Tri-City Chapter, Friends of Amistad dinner meeting programs and newsletters of the Harper Memorial Library and Museum of Afro-American Historical Research, entitled "Historically Speaking."
