Biographical Statement

Filmmaker Tom Thurman is the president of FBN Motion Pictures, Inc. He has produced a number of documentaries on the subject of film directors and actors.

Thomas L. Thurman was born on March 26, 1962 in Shelbyville, Kentucky. He received a B.A. in English from Centre College of Kentucky in 1984 and an M.A. in English and Film Studies from the University of Kentucky in 1988. From 1988 to 1991, he taught English and Film Studies at Tulane Univesity and the University of New Orleans. Thurman then served as lecturer at Berea College (1991-2002) and Eastern Kentucky University (1993-1996). Thurman is the president of FBN Motion Pictures, Inc, which he founded in 1990. He has worked as a producer/director/writer for Kentucky Educational Television in Lexington, Kentucky since 1998.

Thurman has produced and directed documentaries on actors Warren Oates (1992), Ben Johnson (1996), and Nick Nolte (2008); record producer Jerry Wexler (2001); film directors John Ford (2002), Sam Peckinpah (2004), and Tod Browning (2005);

writers Harry Crews (1993) and Hunter S. Thompson (2006); and on the topic of independent African American cinema (2000). He has received numerous

awards for his work, and his films have been screened at numerous national and international film festivals.
