Biographical Statement

Clergywoman and educator Lillian Robinson Wynn, wife of pastor Daniel Webster Wynn, was born in 1922 in Rentiesville, Oklahoma.

She received her undergraduate degree from Langston University, her Master of Music Education degree from the University of Michigan, and was the first African American female graduate of the Vanderbilt Divinity School. Wynn, primarily as an instructor of music, has taught in elementary and high schools in Oklahoma, Texas, North Carolina, Alabama, Massachusetts, and Tennessee. She has also worked as an English instructor at Tuskegee Institute and as a music instructor at Tennessee State University. Her civic involvement includes service as Vice President of the Tennessee Conference Women's Society of Christian Service, the President of the United Methodist Ministers' Wives' Fellowship, President of Dixon Memorial United Methodist Women, Chairperson of the Tennessee Conference Work Area on Worship, and President of the Hydes Ferry-Drakes Branch Civic Association. She also was a member of the Nashville Branch of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, Delta Sigma Theta, and the Tennessee Teachers Association. She passed away in 2004.
