Lillian Robinson Wynn papers

 Collection
Identifier: 397

Scope and Contents

The papers of Lillian Robinson Wynn chiefly consist of correspondence, photographs, and materials collected during her tenure as the principal of McCall High School of the Tennessee Prison for Women. Correspondence primarily pertains to her role as the principal of McCall High School and regards personnel and financial matters, as well as obtaining Title I funding. Correspondence also pertains to Wynn's January 1976 dismissal from her principalship of McCall High School as well as her appeal of her termination, and includes her letters to Governor of Tennessee Ray Blanton, United States Senator Jim Sasser, state senator Avon Williams, and other state officials and politicians. Alleging collusion and racial bias in her termination, Wynn sent numerous letters appealing for reinstatement to several Tennessee Department of Correction officials, who ultimately never kept their promises for reinstatement or the creation of an alternate position for Wynn relating to prison reform. Other items of interest include the charter, with signatures, of the Hydes Ferry-Drakes Civic Association in the Bordeaux neighborhood of Nashville
