Biographical Statement

William Lombard Sr. was born March 15, 1910. In 1923, his parents placed him in the Longshoremen’s Protective Union Benevolent Association as an apprentice. He would later become president of the Local 231 and 1226 of the association, which was organized in 1872 as a separate union for Black longshoremen. He also served as president of the Longshoremen Home Association and Handicapped Voters League, Inc.
