Scope and Contents

The William Lombard papers contains correspondence, minutes, financial records, bank statements, constitutions, membership applications, collected printed items, and newspapers clippings related to the Longshoreman’s Protective Union Benevolent Association. It also includes photocopies of records of incorporation and liquidation, property transactions, and other matters pertaining to the early history of the union as well as three photographs of William Lombard. Of particular interest are the records pertaining to the property at 2059 Jackson Avenue in New Orleans, which chronicled the Association’s efforts to get the deteriorating building on the National Historic Registry. The papers also contain materials related to the Longshoremen’s Home Association, and the Handicapped Voters League. This collection also includes an oral interview conducted by Kenneth Coleman, archival assistant at the Amistad Research Center and another conducted by Rev. William that was transcribed by Dzung Hoang.
