Correspondence, 1987-1989
Scope and Contents
The records of the Tulane University Vietnamese Association (TUVA) provide a small amount of documentation about the organization's first two years of community and charitable work. The collection contains documentation in Vietnamese and English in the form of correspondence, meeting agendas, newsletters, publications, questionnaires, and speeches. The collection contains a small selection of color photograph snapshots and negatives of members at meetings of the association.
The correspondence to and from TUVA officers and officers of the Vietnamese Student Association of Louisiana State University mainly relates to meeting announcements, funding, on-campus events for international students, as well as letters sent to members regarding questionnaires for the Association's 1988 oral history project, entitled Cross-Cultural Adjustment. The project's focus was to interview members of the Vietnamese community who immigrated to the United States. The collection contains only two items from this project: a typescript summary of an interview with social worker Thai Nguyen and a sound recording of an interview with Joseph Vuong. These interviews focus on the cultural differences between Vietnam and the United States. Of interest are a small selection of TUVA's monthly newsletters (1988-1989).
