Scope and Contents
The civic activities series is arranged alphabetically from Alpha Kappa Alpha to Young Women’s Christian Association. This series includes a number of organizations for which Harvey was an active participant or board member, including, Community Service Association, Ghana Accra Assembly, Habitat for Humanity, International Women's Year, Leadership Jackson, The Links Inc., Martin Luther King Jr. Center for Social Change, Mississippi State Ethics Commission, National Council of Negro Women, Smith Robertson Museum and Cultural Center, Southern Regional Council, and the United States Commission on Civil Rights. Also included are materials concerning Womanpower Unlimited, an interracial human relations group founded by Harvey that provided aid to civil rights workers coming into Mississippi during the early 1960s. Also included are material for Women International Strike for Peace (formerly Women Strike for Peace), a group that participated in international peace demonstrations in Rome, Geneva, and the Soviet Union.
