Scope and Contents

From the Sub-Series:

Warren Marr Management, formally established by Marr in 1942, promoted budding classical musicians, authors, and actresses in the New York area. The company's purpose was to help unknown musicians navigate through cultural barriers and other obstacles in place during the time. In order to do this, Marr held concert series in New York. The majority of these files consist of correspondence, contracts, photographs, publicity, and other promotional materials relating to Marr's many clients. Of particular interest is an essay by Marr titled, "Impresario," which gives a detailed look into Marr's interest in the performing arts, as well as his motivations for establishment the company.

Of note are files for Coreania Hayman, soprano, who starred as Cindy Lou in Carmen Jones; Richard Bruce Nugent, a Harlem Renaissance writer and painter; and William Veasey, baritone, who starred in George Gershwin's production of Porgy and Bess.
