Scope and Contents
Personal correspondence and other materials encompass 1.6 linear feet and contain both incoming and outgoing personal correspondence (1943-1985) of Warren Marr II. The correspondence includes handwritten letters from Marr's father, Rev. Warren Marr, Sr. and sister, Grace Marr Nugent; letters to utility and credit card companies; thank you letters from institutions such as Wilberforce University and the New York Public Library who received financial contributions from Marr; and letters related to Marr's quest for employment once he moved to New York. Of particular note is a signed letter from Henry Cabot Lodge, Jr. acknowledging Marr's request for a message commemorating the Independence of the Gold Coast and Togoland in 1957.
Other materials include greeting cards and invitations addressed to Marr. Documents such as Marr's curriculum vitae and resumes provide detailed biographical information. Of particular note are writings by Marr including, "A Prayer of Thanks," and a handwritten account of his brief encounter with Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
