Scope and Contents
The Theresa A. Woodruff papers document to limited degrees the social life of Woodruff late in her life, as well as the career of her husband, African American artist Hale Woodruff. The collection consists of correspondence, writings, exhibition catalogs and checklists, membership lists, invitation lists, collected articles and newspaper clippings, printed ephemera, and a photograph.
Of note are catalogs and checklists of exhibitions of works by Hale Woodruff, 1945-1982. Membership and invitation lists document Theresa Woodruff's membership in and/or support of Girl Friends Inc., the NAACP Legal Defense Fund, and the Harlem Hospital Center Auxiliary. Other materials are for Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, and the National Urban League.
