Items concern the recognition of Lieutenent John R. Fox of the 266th Infantry Regiment. He was killed in combat in Sommocolonia, Italy, on December 26, 1944, and was recommended for honors at that time. Thirty eight years later, in May 1982, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. His widow, Arlene E. Fox, received the medal at Fort Devens, Massachusetts, during an anniversary and reunion of the 366th Infantry Veterans Association.
